Tamra Jal - How to Make Copper Water at Home (Step-by-Step Ayurvedic Guide)
Share
What is Tamra Jal?
Tamra Jal literally translates to 'copper water' in Sanskrit. It is water that has been stored in a pure copper vessel for 6-8 hours (ideally overnight), allowing copper ions to dissolve into the water through the Oligodynamic Effect. This practice is one of the simplest and most accessible Ayurvedic wellness rituals.
How to Make Tamra Jal at Home
Step 1: Choose the Right Vessel
Use a 100% pure copper bottle, glass, or matka. The vessel must be uncoated and unlined - no lacquer, no enamel, no tin lining. The water needs direct contact with copper. At Copper Mart, all our copper drinkware is designed specifically for Tamra Jal.
Step 2: Fill with Room Temperature Water
Fill the copper vessel with plain drinking water at room temperature. Do not use hot water, as it can cause excess copper leaching.
Step 3: Store Overnight (6-8 Hours)
Place the filled vessel on your bedside table or kitchen counter. Cover with a lid if available. The ideal duration is 6-8 hours - overnight storage is perfect.
Step 4: Drink First Thing in the Morning
Drink the copper water on an empty stomach, ideally at room temperature. Start with one glass (200-300ml) per day.
Precautions
- Do not store milk, juice, or acidic beverages in copper vessels
- Limit intake to 2-3 glasses per day
- Take a one-month break after every three months of continuous use
- Clean the vessel weekly with lemon and salt
- People with Wilson's disease should avoid copper water
When to Expect Results
Most people notice improved digestion within 1-2 weeks. Skin improvements and energy changes typically appear after 4-6 weeks of consistent use. Remember, Tamra Jal is a gentle, long-term wellness practice - not a quick fix.
